As a textile artist I have always been excited by the idea of light and colour, I am obsessed by the play of colour and how to manipulate this into a variety of end products. This has led me to investigate translucent techniques to encapsulate and develop my designs.
The Light Pipes are made from silk which dyes beautifully combined with great translucence and delicacy. It is then woven and captured in resin. Much of the silk used is reclaimed sari material.
I love the unexpected outcomes and imperfections like the bubbles, where the silk folds or where there are textural qualities to the surface. No one design is ever the same.
